We are a Reception class of 24 wonderful children. We enjoy exploring our purpose built unit with fantastic spaces both inside and out. As a team we value children's interests and enhance our provision based on the needs and interests of our children. We have 2 teachers. Mrs. Edwards teaches Monday-Thursday and Mrs. Baker teaches on a Friday. Mrs. Perrin and Mrs. Mace are also here to help. Every Wednesday we put on our wellies, come rain or shine, and explore nature for the afternoon! We love our 'Welly Wednesdays'!
This year our class are named after Beatrix Potter. All our classes are named after scientists. Beatrix Potter is well known for her fantastic stories about Peter Rabbit but she was also a keen natural scientist and conservationalist. She enjoyed studying wild mushrooms and famously painted them too.
Beatrix worked closely with the National Trust, helping it to acquire land and manage farms to ensure long-term preservation. When she died in 1943, she left 4,000 acres of land and countryside in our care, as well as 14 farms. Her legacy has helped ensure the survival of the Lakeland landscape.
HOMEWORK
Phonics - please practice the sounds and tricky word cards in your child's pack every day. They will also bring home an optional phonic worksheet.
Reading - Please hear your child read every night and write in their reading record. They bring home two books. One matched to their phonic knowledge and one for pleasure. They can read their phonic book and you can read the book they have chosen to them to encourage their love of reading.
Maths - playing board games such as snakes and ladders, counting stairs as you climb them, weighing ingredients to make cakes etc are all great hands-on learning experiences for maths to develop. For more ideas visit https://nrich.maths.org/13371. Also, see Top Marks and Numberblocks links below.
Topic - Can your child remember any facts they have learned about polar bears? Where do they live? What do they eat?
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
