Edward Lear (1812-1888) was a wonderful natural history artist in his younger days, drawing parrots and other animals in great detail, for the Zoological Society of London! He also painted landscapes of places he visited abroad, including India, Greece and Italy.
Lear is most famous for writing nonsense verse, poems which often include imaginary animals and made up words. Some of Lear's most famous poems, are 'The Quangle-Wangle's hat,' 'The Owl and the Pussycat' and 'The Jumblies' He also wrote some hilarious limericks.

Reading
Reading is one of the most valuable skills your child will ever learn, and regular reading at home makes a huge difference to their progress, confidence, and enjoyment of books. We are encouraging every child to read every night at home – whether that’s a school reading book, a library book, or even sharing a favourite story together.
To celebrate and reward this important habit:
Thank you for supporting your child’s learning by making reading part of your daily routine – even 10 minutes a night adds up to a huge difference over the year. Together, we can help every child develop a lifelong love of reading!
