Ready, Respectful, Safe.
Together being the best that we can be in mind, body and spirit!
At Gayton Church of England Primary Academy we work together in a Christian community to be ready to learn, respectful of everyone and safe to flourish. We challenge and support each other to be the best that we can be in mind, body and spirit to achieve more than we ever thought possible.
We teach phonics based on the Letters and Sounds sequence while incorporating Jolly Phonics actions. We use book banded books to practise and consolidate the skills acquired in phonics. The early stages of the reading scheme have been separated to ensure that we have texts which are completely phonetically decodable. Primarily, these books are Floppy's Phonics from Oxford Reading Tree and Songbirds. For those pupils requiring additional breadth at the same level, we have books within the same band which may not be completely phonetically decodable but remain accessible to those pupils.
