Ready, Respectful, Safe.
Together being the best that we can be in mind, body and spirit!
At Gayton Church of England Primary Academy we work together in a Christian community to be ready to learn, respectful of everyone and safe to flourish. We challenge and support each other to be the best that we can be in mind, body and spirit to achieve more than we ever thought possible.
Reading and Phonics:
We teach phonics based on the Letters and Sounds sequence while incorporating Jolly Phonics actions. An in-depth powerpoint explaining this can be found below. We use book banded books to practise and consolidate the skills acquired in phonics. The early stages of the 'Oxford reading Tree' reading scheme have been separated to ensure that we have texts which are completely phonetically decodable. For those pupils requiring additional breadth at the same level, we have books within the same band which may are not completely phonetically decodable but remain accessible to those pupils.

- help your child at home, to help them at school!
Use the sheets from school to practice the 'Tackling Tables' that your children are learning in school. In class, the children have a strict 5 minute time limit on their sheet; the aim is for them to become quick as well as accurate in their addition and subtraction skills and then equally as quick and accurate with their times tables knowledge.
Remember, by the end of Year 4, children should know all their times tables, up to 12x12!
If you have any questions, or need any further advice, please speak to your child's class teacher.
